CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE
The Skaneateles Library has two different programs to get people of all ages reading and using the library all summer long. Reading Dragons & Friends is a great option for kids and adults who want to encourage the children in their life to keep reading. The Summer Library Challenge is designed for teens or adults who want to read more this summer and/or try something new. Whichever adventure you choose, it’ll be a summer of epic memories.
Reading Dragons & Friends: A Reading Adventure for All Ages

The more time you spend reading, the more collectible cards you earn, featuring a variety of mythical creatures at different levels of power. Read all summer long to collect cards and build a powerful deck ready for battle. This program is perfect for fans of Pokémon, Adopt Me, Harry Potter/Percy Jackson fandoms, or gaming.
Who can collect cards?
This program is designed for kids entering kindergarten through adults. Adults: this is for you, too! Bask in the nostalgia of games and trading cards from your childhood. Have a kid who’s participating? Join the fun by collecting alongside them—plan family game nights, inspire your child to keep going, and model a lifelong love of reading.
How can I earn cards?
Beginning on Friday, June 26, pick up a starter pack of 3 Reading Dragons & Friends cards, rules for battle, and a tracker that shows you how to earn more cards. For every 30 minutes of reading, come to the library and choose a new card for your collection. Listening to audiobooks, graphic novels, magazines and reading with family and friends – it all counts toward your reading time. Special “rare” cards will also be available at certain events or unlocked as your collection grows. Cards will be available at the library through Monday, August 31.
How do I play the card game?
Grow your collection of unique mythical creature cards and battle against the decks of friends or family members. Battle games are similar to Rock, Paper, Scissors, with some cards having more power than others.
